At present, China's oil chemical products are mainly based on oil chemicals, including fatty acids, fatty alcohols, fatty amines and glycerol. These basic oleochemicals can produce many chemicals through reactions such as hydrogenation, ethoxylation, sulfonation, vulcanization, saponification, etc., and are used in many downstream fields such as plastics, rubber, textiles, daily chemicals, leather, paper, oil fields, etc. Fatty acid is an important oil chemical products and chemical raw materials, including stearic acid, oleic acid, lauric acid and so on.
The downstream demand areas of stearic acid are mainly rubber, plastics and other industries; industrial oleic acid can be used in plastics, washing, mineral processing, paint and other industries, and downstream products have high profitability and market space; high-purity oleic acid (≥ 80%) has low domestic output, large import volume and high import dependence. It can be used in food, medicine, cosmetics and other industries, and has a broad market space.
After years of market adjustment and industrial integration, the market pattern of China's oil and chemical industry has been greatly improved. In recent years, with the new round of oil and chemical industry expansion and construction of domestic and Southeast Asian raw material enterprises, the domestic oil and chemical industry may experience a new round of larger and deeper adjustment. On the one hand, with the policy adjustment of raw material supplier countries and the continuous improvement and development of the industry, it has caused tremendous pressure and influence on domestic industry enterprises. Implementing the "going out" strategy and conducting overseas cooperation and investment is the trend and direction of the development of my country's oil and chemical industry; on the other hand, the focus of the industry has gradually shifted to production differentiation, functionalization, high-end, and refinement, and enterprises have deployed and developed The downstream industrial chain has opened a new round of growth.
In recent years, my country's stearic acid, fatty acid, fatty alcohol and other oleochemical products have generally maintained steady growth. It is estimated that in 2021, the total output of domestic fatty acids, natural fatty alcohols, fatty amines, and glycerin (oil hydrolysis) will reach 3 million tons. About, of which fatty acids are the most widely used, accounting for up to 68.1, and the annual apparent demand reaches about 2.5 million tons. From 2015 to 2022, the total output of major products in China's oil and chemical industry basically maintained an annualized growth of about 4%.

What are fatty alcohols

Fatty alcohols are aliphatic alcohols having a chain of 8 to 22 carbon atoms. Fatty alcohols typically have an even number of carbon atoms and one hydroxyl group attached to the end of the carbon chain. One of the raw materials for detergent surfactants. The general formula is ROH. R of the detergent alcohol is generally a C12 to C18 hydrocarbon group. Such a high carbon fatty alcohol has an amphiphilic character, I .e., a hydrophobic group such as a hydrocarbon chain and a hydrophilic group such as a hydroxyl group in the molecule. However, due to the solubility in water is very low, it is necessary to add hydrophilic groups or convert hydroxyl groups into sulfuric acid groups, so that after the hydrophilic-lipophilic balance value reaches the necessary value, the fatty alcohol derivative has enough hydrophilic groups to dissolve in water, and can become aggregates (micelles), the fatty alcohol derivative is the surfactant. For example, dodecanol is insoluble in water, but when it is changed into sodium lauryl sulfate, due to the addition of a sulfate group (-SO3-), the water solubility becomes better, and micelles can be formed in water, reaching a certain concentration, showing very good surface activity. It is the use of this characteristic, fatty alcohol as raw material, produced a variety of surfactants with various excellent properties.
